The Subtle things we overlook; What are you willing to risk?

When the holiday began, I allowed my baby to watch age-appropriate cartoons on YouTube Kids. Everything seemed fine… until one day I realised she had watched some Halloween themed episodes, zombies, monsters, the whole thing. At first, I brushed it off.

But then she suddenly started fearing the dark.

That’s when I knew something wasn’t right. I began blocking the channels one by one.

A few days later, I went to the market and bought her some clothes. I picked what I thought were cute pieces. When we got home, she saw one blouses, and immediately shouted “Halloween!” excitedly. That’s when I noticed it: the witch hat, the owl, and the pumpkin. I hadn’t even seen it.

Then a little later, she wore a pair of trousers she liked, and I noticed they had eyes printed all over them. I ignored it… until that night when my husband called me and said, “These eyes are glowing in the dark.” Sure enough, when I checked, the many little eyes were shining like they had their own light.

In that moment, something settled in my heart:
I can’t ignore anything that could plant fear in my home or in my child.
Fear is not of God.

So I took those two clothes and threw them out. I know to some people it may look extreme, but I would rather be wrong and protect my child, than ignore something that could open a door to fear.

And that made me think…

In the same way, what might you be risking for eternity?

Are you living in a sin you think is “small” and harmless?
Are you living carelessly because you believe there’s no heaven, no judgment, no eternity?

What’s better?

To live right, love God, love people, pursue holiness, and find out there was no heaven after all?
Or to live recklessly, ignoring God, and then discover too late that heaven and eternity were real all along?

What are you willing to risk?

Your peace?
Your soul?
Your eternity?

Some things are too costly to gamble with.
