They have eyes but can’t see; understanding spiritual blindness

For a long time, I’ve been disturbed by how some people don’t see how spiritual life really is, how they dismiss the gospel, or even the reality of life after death.

Then I read this verse:

…They have eyes but do not see, and ears but do not hear…
Psalm 115:5-6

It hit me that some people are truly blind to the truth of the good news.
Sometimes, it’s intentional, like the Pharisees, who rejected Jesus out of pride and self-righteousness (John 9:39–41).
Other times, it’s because the enemy has blinded their spiritual eyes:

The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:4

This understanding changes how we respond.
Instead of frustration, we should respond with compassion and prayer.
When your loved ones don’t understand or seem to reject God, remember, it might not be that they’re choosing darkness deliberately, but that they simply can’t see the light yet.

So don’t give up.
Keep praying for them, keep showing love, and keep living out the gospel before them.
Because as long as they’re alive, there’s still hope for their eyes to be opened and their hearts to turn to God.

For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. Luke 19:10
