Faith in the Age of AI: How should christians respond?

Artificial Intelligence is evolving rapidly. At first, I didn’t think too much about it, even though I use it quite often. But recently, I came across a YouTube video that made me pause, a church conducting services using AI, and schools replacing traditional teachers with AI systems.

It hit me: AI isn’t some far-off concept anymore. It’s here, and it’s integrating into areas we once thought were sacred or uniquely human, like preaching, teaching, and mentoring.

As believers, this isn’t the time to criticize or pray against AI out of fear. Instead, it’s time to understand it. I’m not suggesting we let AI take over our pulpits or replace Spirit-led sermons. But with the pace at which things are advancing, especially the rise of autonomous AI tools that no longer require human prompts, we must remain vigilant and anchored in truth. Why? Because manipulation and misinformation are real threats in this new landscape.

Let’s be honest: things may not get easier. If we truly desire to make a lasting impact, not just in society, but in our families, churches, and among the next generation, we cannot afford to stay ignorant. We must understand the tools of the times, and AI is one of them.

That said, discernment is critical. I saw another clip where someone was asking AI to interpret tongues. That’s not biblical. It’s a clear example of how AI, when misused, can blur spiritual lines. On the other hand, I’ve also noticed that over-reliance on AI can slowly chip away at our creativity, critical thinking, and even our dependence on God for direction.

So what’s the bottom line?

We can’t afford to be ignorant. AI is not going away. But we must approach it with wisdom, discernment, and a deep knowledge of God’s truth. The world is changing fast, and the Church must not be left behind.
