My Baby’s First Week of School — and a Lesson from God

Last week, my daughter went to school for the very first time. Day one wasn’t too hard for me — maybe because we had taken her for admission quite late, so it didn’t feel real yet. She came home very tired, but all seemed okay.

But day two… whew. She was excited in the morning, ready to go. But the moment she realized I was about to leave her behind, she held onto my foot and started crying. My goodness, that was hard. The teacher gently picked her up, and thankfully she soon calmed down. But that moment threw me off. I started questioning myself:
Am I a bad mum? Did I take her to school too early? Is school even necessary?

When I got home, I couldn’t do much. I kept picturing her standing in a corner, feeling abandoned. I just sat there, watching through the window — thankfully the school is right next to our house. I waited until tea break, and to my surprise… there she was! Running, jumping, laughing like nothing had happened. It was like she had forgotten I even existed. And oh, was I proud.

That moment reminded me of how proud God must be of us. When He pushes us out of our comfort zones and sees us thriving, showing up even when it’s hard — how delighted He must feel. So here’s my encouragement:
Every place outside your comfort zone isn’t meant to hurt you — it’s often an opportunity for growth.

To every mum out there, I wish you a Happy Mother’s Day. It’s not an easy role, but it’s one of the most fulfilling gifts we’ll ever receive.
